One of the highlights of a visit to Brunei, Ulu Temburong National Park is in the heart of a 500-sq-km area of pristine rainforest covering most of southern Temburong.

It's so untouched that only about 1 sq km of the park is accessible to tourists; in order to protect it for future generations, the rest of the park is off-limits to everyone except scientists, who come from around the world. Permitted activities include a canopy walk, some short jungle walks, and swimming in the cool mountain waters of Sungai Temburong – so don't forget your swimsuit.

The majestic Billionth Barrel Monument was constructed in 1991 and possesses its own significance, which is to commemorate the one-billionth barrel of crude oil production from the prolific Seria-1 field well.

The monument was built close to Seria-1, which was the first commercially viable oil well drilled in 1929. In fact, the whole country has not looked back since the drilling of Seria-1.

Built on stilts along the banks of the Brunei River, the sultanate's largest water village is an ideal place to get a sense of Bruneians' traditional way of life.

After taking a water taxi over from downtown Bandar Seri Begawan, visitors can stroll among colourfully painted houses on wooden boardwalks.

Visiting the palace of the Sultan, and other homes belonging to the Sultan's family, is something to do of course. These homes are amazing.

You can peep in through the gates and fences and see how much luxury there is in there, they aren't as showy on the outside as palaces in some parts of the world, but make no mistake, the Sultan's Palace is huge and luxurious in the grounds. It is nice getting around and seeing other things on the way to these places too.

One of Brunei’s main attractions is Excapade Sushi. People from Miri and KK (Kota Kinabalu) actually put Excapade as their must-go place for Japanese food when they visit Brunei.

It’s very affordable yet good quality sushi. If you had tried budget sushi places in Malaysia, Singapore and Australia – you will be surprised that Excapade is pretty good value for money.
